She was chief flight nurse of Flight for Life in Colorado Springs and is the clinical coordinator of the Colorado Springs base of the statewide Flight for Life program. She is also a site reviewer for the Commission on Accreditation for Medical Transport Systems and has coauthored a number of articles and textbook chapters.

      30-year-old man was returning home from work at approximately 1520 on a January afternoon when he was involved in significant three-car crash. The crash occurred on a rural portion of a state highway approximately 15 miles from an urban area with major medical and trauma centers. Weather was not a factor.

An actual patient case involving air transport will be recounted (minor details of the case may be changed solely to protect the privacy of the patient). The initial presentation and treatment will be described, followed by several questions about the patient's initial presentation and management.
