The words “Out of Africa” are most often associated with the title of Karen Blixen's popular book1 and the Hollywood version of her life story and as such have a romantic connotation. However, for anyone who requires evacuation or repatriation because of serious illness and injury while in Africa, these words take on an urgent and more serious meaning. Fortunately, the “Flying Doctors” are available to this patient group and able to provide comprehensive air medical transport and care.
