It's that time of year—time to register for the AMTC in Austin, Texas. This year appears to be as exciting as ever and promises to provide a variety of educational offerings for any individual affiliated with transport. Take the opportunity to reconnect with old friends and acquaintances. The best part of being with transport is the camaraderie that we feel with others that do the same job and have the same goals. These friendships last a lifetime. Having 2000 individuals with the same passions all in one place to discuss ideas is a phenomenal experience.
Rediscover the love of learning. Individuals in the transport industry love to learn and expand their minds. ASTNA is facilitating the opportunity by offering a 1-day CFRN review course as a pre-conference to AMTC. This will be a high-intensity class that will help prepare the transport nurse for the certification exam for flight nursing. The course will be offered on Saturday, October 22, from 8 am until 6 pm. The exam for those interested will be on Sunday afternoon.
For the old timers in transport nursing, envision AMTC as an opportunity to recharge your professional career. This year the special interest group dessert function will be on Tuesday afternoon at 1630. Who doesn't love dessert and the chance to discuss issues within the industry that are unique to our special interest groups? The military luncheon has proven to be a great success in the past. We have been fortunate to have great presentations about our armed forces and the challenges that are encountered on a daily basis. This year the luncheon with be on Monday during the lunch hour.
A second opportunity to eat with our colleagues and friends will be the chief flight nurse luncheon held on Tuesday at noon. This is usually an open forum for managers to discuss operational issues and share best practices that have worked at their programs. If you are a chief flight nurse, this is a wonderful opportunity to network with individuals who face the same management issues.
To close out the conference, the annual membership luncheon will be held from noon until 2:30 pm on Wednesday. Speaking on behalf of the board, this is one of the highlights of the conference. It is our chance to interact with the members of the association. Please make a point to seek us out and introduce yourself. We are here because of you and are very humbled to represent such a great association.
Finally, help ASTNA recognize the great individuals that work in this industry. We will be presenting the winners of the Katz Mason, Jordan, and ground transport awards. All of the recipients are phenomenal people. Their contributions to all areas of transport nursing make our profession the best. In closing I look forward to a great conference. As always, make safety your number one priority! I'll see you at AMTC.
